Richnew41Does anyone happen to know of standard rotors that fits the rear of the prowler??? IE: If I were to change out the OEM, what can be used as a replacement?

Although this will add weight, I was thinking that the benefit in cleaner wheels (Being able to use ceramic pads) is a good trade off....

Any thoughts out there?

Many Thanks
Rich

robinHello Rich.. Guess who...
The prowler has specific rear rotors. they are still available to purchase about 400 a side.
not suppose to use ceramic pads.
The only person that has duplicated a rotor is Bill the Parts guy.
They are your every day steel rotor that can be turned if desired. You can use ceramic pads on these. (where as originals should not be turned)
These are cheaper about 240 each?
There are no other off the shelf rotors that fit the prowler as of yet.

phil2237The cast iron rotors that Bill has are safe to use, It just adds a pound or so to the weight. At least with the cast rotors that he has, you will be able to use ceramic pads on the rear
alrtgA couple of years ago I was curious what existing applications might have compatible Rear Brake Rotors that may work on our cars AND be able to be resurfaced if needed, available, and more cost effective.

I came up with one possibility from Advance Auto Parts.
Wearever Part Number YH141533 so I ordered one and have it in my possession to this day.

It appeared to be "Close" to our O.E. rotors but I as of the moment I have not gotten around to actually taking a rotor off of my car and measured or compared them to say yes or no as to compatibility.

This evening when I saw this topic, it renewed my interest.

I went into the Advance site and it appears this part number is no longer "Available" so I went to a cross reference chart for Bendix and found the number noted as "Obsolete".

I dug a little further and wound up on the Raybestos site where I found a cross over number of 7993R

With that information, I was able to come up with a few vehicles that this rear rotor is intended to fit.

Chrysler Daytona 1989-1993
Chrysler LeBaron 1989-1995
Dodge Daytona 1989-1993
Dodge Shadow 1994
Dodge Spirit 1991-1995
Plymouth Acclaim 1991-1995

The specifications for these applications are as follows:

Part Number: 7993R
Part Description: Disc Brake Rotor
Sub-Brand: Professional Grade
Grade Description: Better
Brake Rotor Diameter, Outer: 11.2500 in
Brake Rotor Thickness, Discard: 0.7970 in
Brake Rotor Thickness, Nominal: 0.8650 in
Coating: Bare
Height, Overall: 2.0300 in
Performance Level: Standard Performance
Packaged Weight:14.0000 lb
Wheel Bolt Circle Diameter: 100.0000 mm
Wheel Bolt Holes, Primary: 5 Each
Country of Origin: CN

I then went to the NAPA website and looked up a 1992 Chrysler Lebaron with the 3.0 V6 and "Vented Rear Rotors" (NOT the Solid Rotors). These are the numbers for it:

Napa Part Number NB 4885993 as of June 14 2017 $32.85 each.

1992 Chrysler Lebaron w/vented rotors

Vane Configuration Reduces Temperatures & Improves Performance.

The Non-Directional Finish On NAPA Premium Rotors Reduces Noise & Braking Roughness.

Type K - Rotor Only. Wheel Studs Are Pressed Into The Hub Only. The Rotor Is A Loose Fit On The Hub & Is Retained By Either Machine Screws Or The Wheel Nuts.

UNSPSC 25171715
# of Bolt Holes 5
Bolt Circle Diameter: 100 mm
Brake Rotor Diameter: 11.25 in.
Brake Rotor Discard Thickness: .8 in.
Brake Rotor Thickness New: .87 in.
Brake Rotor Type: Disc Brake Rotor Only-dih Parking Brake
Center Hole Diameter: 2.26 in.
Height: 2.03 in.
Maximum Lateral Runout: .004 in.
Mounting Type: Type K - Rotor Only. Wheel Studs Are Pressed Into The Hub Only.
The Rotor Is A Loose Fit On The Hub & Is Retained By Either Machine Screws Or The Wheel Nuts.
Vented / Solid: Vented

If someone out there has the time and or inclination to further research the accurateness of this research, please be kind enough to post the results as it may be a benefit to us all. I hope this is of some help.

NOTE: These photo's were downloaded from the Raybestos site. http://www.brakepartsinc.com/raybestos/en-us/catalog-part-search.html

Once the site comes up, type in the number 7993R and these photo's and specs and cross reference of applications should become available if desired.

GaryEChrysler has reduced the price of the rear rotors to less than $300 each. Don't remember the exact amount. The big issue is that Chrysler is going to eliminate stocking most of their Prowler spare parts very soon. The rear brake rotor is one item they will no longer stock. Chrysler is in the process of selling most of their Prowler spare parts.

I will be at Napa anyway tomorrow, I will check this out. If it turns out that these fit, this will be another taken care ofheadache

phil2237I have picked up the rotors as there are 2 possibilities with these part numbers. Its been in the upper 90s here and this old Chicago Boy does not take the heat well. As soon as it cools down a little , I will pull one of my rotors & match them up. They DO LOOK THE SAME AS THE PROWLER ONES. Both rotors are almost identical with one being a 1/4 larger. I will post as soon as it cools off.
Richnew41Appreciate the effort Phil!!!!
This will be a huge help to many and hopefully end the issue on a direct replacement rotor for the rear...

phil2237The Napa number is good, and it is A PERFECT FIT ! They run about $ 39.00 each
robinWell Well look at that alrtg
You did it ..New rotors for 40 bucks can't beat that....Thanks for the info....robin

thanks for the confirmation Phil .

I will retire now. As I'm sure Rich is looking for the next prowler item to challenge me on....

phil2237We need to come up with the computer now
Landscape DoctorThank You all involved in doing the leg work for a compatable rear rotor.
ed monahanThanks to ALL who contributed to this solution to an expensive problem. I guess my two spare OEM rotors are now worth a lot less than I paid for them.
401KATSo I buy 2 kats....come onto this forum a year ago ...buy doing that I now know how to save over 2k in rear rotors(both cars) if I need them.....and YOU STILL HAVE PEOPLE WHO WONDER WHY I CONTRIBUTE MONEY TO A FORUM THAT I CAN BROWSE FOR FREE.......PPPPPPPLEASE SPARE ME......Good job guys.....luv it.....jim

phil2237SORRY ABOUT THAT ED !
ed monahanNothing to be sorry about. I am glad folks are trying to help ALL of us out by solving these problems. I hope I never have to use any rear rotors, aluminum or otherwise.
I sure hope someone solves the computer problems in the near future and makes my spares worth a lot less, also.

There will always be members here that want to keep their Prowlers stock, So selling them , most likely won't be a problem. I am taking the cast ones off my car today & having them drilled & slotted for a better look and will continue to use the stock ones until one cracks or wears out. Just glad ALRTG was able to come up with a part number to try. Make sure when you order them to use the NAPA number only as the other number is for a rotor 1/4 inch larger in diameter. If anyone decides to not use NAPA, most likely any good auto parts store will be able to cross this number to a different brand. This same rotor is made by many different manufactors under different names

Richnew41BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!

What a Team!!!!!!!

alrtg... This started with you and your amazing persistence on this topic (Beyond measure the info you shared)!!!

Phil... Thanks so much for all the effort in confirming the replacement!!!!

This is a HUGE WIN for EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

robinThink you were hit hard ED .
I just purchased the remaining stock from Chrysler...

Hence my little story to Rich.....

I have 4000 sets of OEM rotor 50 Canadian dollars each .
Will accept rubber cheques.

alrtgHi all,

I am glad that the information I gathered proved to be of some use to those of us out there that are in the market for an alternative rear rotor.

Having just returned from a week's vacation, this is great news. I had deliberately left the laptop home and since my 15 year old cell phone only makes and gets phone calls, I was "off the grid" as well.

FYI,

The Prowler turned 52K today on the way home from South Carolina.

DublinOHThanks to all for their persistence in getting this accomplished. One less item to worry about down the road. If we can get the PCM / TCM issues resolved, I think we'll be in great shape for the future.
RDinTNKudos to those who make things happen & congrats to us all!!

alrtgJust for future reference, the following post has additional information related to these rotors.
http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/024112.html#4
mslc10it states in it's specs that the bolt diameter pattern is 5x100, the bolt pattern for a prowler is 5x114.3
Just by bolt pattern they won't fit.
